As you know, our annual Father’s Day Basketball Camp has been cancelled due to COVID-19. Our camp’s mission is to support UNC Children’s Hospital and the pandemic has not changed our focus to do just that. This year, instead of being on Roy William’s Court in the Smith Center, we will be raising money by way of a spirited social media-based challenge that you, your family, friends and neighbors can easily take part in … using your “home court advantage.” The challenge begins during college basketball’s March Madness and ends the evening of the NCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship on April 5.
How it works …
Use any basketball hoop and take a video of yourself for 30 seconds shooting layups, free throws, three pointers, and/or half-court shots. We encourage you to lower the basketball goal and shorten the distance for younger children.
Each shot is assigned a point value that gives you a “score” at the end of 30 seconds. You choose any combination of shots that allows you the best chance for the highest score.
- Layup – 1 point
- Free Throw – 3 points
- Three Pointer – 5 points
- Half-Court Shot – 20 points
Post your video. Challenge or tag a friend to beat your score. Make a donation. We encourage you to donate an equal amount of money for your score (10 points equals $10), but any amount is greatly appreciated.
Videos should be shot vertically and posted to Instagram using #hoops4uncchildrens or direct message us @montrossbasketballcamp so we can repost it. If you do not have an Instagram account, don’t worry! Please email your video, name and score total to email@example.com and we will post it for you.
Every current camper that participates will be mailed a special gift, including our aged out 13 year olds from 2020 and 2021.
